Coaches Code of Conduct
The Rocky Mountain Swim League (RMSL) expects all coaches to abide by the following Code of Conduct. At all RMSL practices and swim meets coaches should:
- Display the characteristics referred to in the RMSL Bylaws – courtesy, good will and sportsmanship.
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship by conducting yourself in a manner that earns the respect of your team, swimmers, fellow and other team coaches, officials, and parents.
- Support the swimmers, fellow and other team coaches, officials, and parents with positive and respectful communication and actions.
- Show respect for the meet facilities and follow the rules of the pool to which you have been invited.
- Maintain self-control at all times. Allow swimmers to swim, other coaches to coach, officials to officiate and parents to parent.
- Respect the meet officials and their authority even if you don’t agree with a decision. Realize that the officials are parent volunteers and should be treated with courtesy and respect and should not be approached regarding a disputed call. As stated in the RMSL Bylaws, protests may only be made by a team parent representative to the Referee.
- Understand that criticizing, name calling, use of abusive language or gestures, or physical touch in a threatening manner directed toward an official, coach, participating swimmer or other parent will not be permitted or tolerated.
I understand the above code of conduct and agree to abide by the spirit of the league. I will maintain good will and sportsmanship as I am a representative of my team and a role model for my swimmers.
I understand it is my responsibility to read and be familiar with the RMSL bylaws and procedures.
I understand that any actions against the code of conduct will be met with disciplinary actions by the RMSL Grievance committee as well as my team. This can result in suspension of pool facilities, forfeit of meets, and expulsion from the league.
Finally, the coaches should continue to enrich the wonderful spirit and tradition that is the Rocky Mountain Swim League.
