Preserve Piranhas: Register today - practices begin Monday morning!
Piranhas Families- a quick reminder to please register today for the 2020 season if you haven't already. Practices start Monday morning!
Hello Piranhas Families!
We’re very excited to announce the beginning of our 2020 summer swim season! We need to do a quick final registration, then practices will start on Monday June 15th.
We have a terrific roster of coaches this year, led by Bryne Knowles as Head Coach. Collectively and individually, our coaches bring a rich set of competitive swimming knowledge and experience and are committed to providing a safe yet fun swim season. They are just as excited as we are to get things going!
As with everything these days, this season will be different than in prior years. We’ll be following a strict, extensive set of mandatory protocols, developed in accordance with guidance from the State of Colorado, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Tri-County Health Department and USA Swimming.
- You can review the guidelines here and will be asked to acknowledge those during the registration process.
We understand that not all families will feel comfortable returning to organized swim practices at this time. Your participation is of course welcome but optional, and we understand and support any decisions you make on returning to practices. Each family should do what they feel is in their own best interest.
While we hope to offer the Junior Piranhas program this season, we are going to wait a couple of weeks before making that decision. The Junior Piranhas program naturally requires a higher level of personal contact and thus we want to be extra sure that such a program can be safely managed on top of the Piranhas team activity. Those families who pre-registered for Junior Piranhas will be contacted in the next couple of weeks to discuss.
Piranhas practices will be staggered to allow for compliance with capacity/headcount limitations, with practice groups alternating days between swim and dryland workouts. There will be no traditional dual or multi-team meets this season, although we hope to be able to hold one or more small intrasquad competitions for each age group at some point in the season. In line with our safety protocols, we’ll conduct swim practices with a maximum of three swimmers per lane and enforce physical distancing at all times in all team activities.
The initial practice schedule can be viewed here. Note the schedule (and protocols) could change if/when public restrictions are relaxed in the future, but this will be a great start for now. Again, we presently have no meets scheduled, so the schedule includes Saturday practices for certain groups. Our “season” will likely go through July 25th but could be extended.
REGISTRATION: Before we begin practices on Monday, we need to finalize our swimmer registration. As in previous seasons, Preserve residents will have priority in terms of capacity limitations, with non-residents being allowed to register on a waitlist basis pending the count of resident swimmers. Returning non-residents (only) will receive an email including a link to register.
Registration will open tonight at 7:00 for all swimmers. We will confirm non-resident registrations on or before Sunday June 14th.

- Given the quick timeframe, we respectfully ask that Preserve residents register as soon as possible; this will enable us to quickly confirm all registrations (and our total headcount) and begin practices on Monday.
- As for volunteer requirements, the absence of traditional meets this season will eliminate most of the normal volunteer roles; however, wewill need certain roles such as daily Safety Monitors to help ensure compliance with the special operational protocols, both inside and outside (playground) of the pool area. Please do your part to help with these volunteer needs.
As always, please refer to our team website for complete information on our summer swim season.
We can’t wait to see our swimmers!
